Terms of Use

These terms are a contract between you and the operator of Thesis (“Thesis,” “we,” “us”). By creating an account or using the app you agree to them. They're short on purpose — read them once.

1. What Thesis is

A research, education and social-discovery app for market data. Not a brokerage, not advice.

Thesis provides market information, educational explanations, and aggregate, consent-based social features. It does not provide brokerage services, investment advice, recommendations, portfolio management, or order execution of any kind. The Disclosures are part of these terms.

2. Who can use it

18+, real humans, one account each.

You must be at least 18 years old (or the age of majority where you live, if higher) to create an account. You agree to provide accurate information, keep your password secure, and not impersonate anyone. Accounts are for humans — no bots, scrapers, or automated access.

3. Your responsibilities

  • Financial decisions are yours alone. Verify any data with your brokerage or a primary source before acting on it.
  • Don't misuse the service: no attempting to break, overload, reverse-engineer, or extract bulk data from it.
  • Don't use Thesis to harass anyone or to present its content as personalized financial advice to others.
  • Invite links are for people you actually know. Don't spam them.

4. Social features and your content

The only thing you can publish is a pack — a named list of assets. You choose who sees it, and anyone can report it.

Thesis has no posts, comments, direct messages or replies. The only thing you can publish is a pack — a named list of assets we already cover, optionally with a one-line description. You choose each pack's audience: private, your friends, or public. Packs may only contain assets from the Thesis universe, and public packs are rate-limited per account.

You are responsible for what you name and publish. Your research activity may separately power aggregate insights about your friends only if you opt in, as described in the Privacy Policy. You can turn sharing off, or delete your account and all its data, at any time in settings.

What a pack may not be

Don't create, name, or describe a pack that:

  • promotes or solicits the purchase or sale of any security or asset, or is designed to move its price;
  • presents itself as advice, a recommendation, a signal, a tip, or an endorsement — by us or by anyone;
  • is spam, a scam, a referral scheme, or an advertisement;
  • impersonates another person, or implies an affiliation with Thesis or any company that doesn't exist;
  • is harassing, hateful, threatening, sexual, or otherwise abusive;
  • infringes someone else's intellectual property or other rights;
  • is unlawful, or encourages anything unlawful.

Packs are lists, not advice. Nothing in any pack — yours or anyone else's — is a recommendation by us.

Licence you give us

You keep ownership of what you create. So that we can actually run the feature, you grant Thesis a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to host, store, reproduce and display the packs you publish, and your display name alongside them, to the audience you selected — for as long as you keep them published. Set a pack back to private or delete it and that licence ends for future display. This licence covers nothing else: not your notes, not your reading history, not your watchlist.

Reporting and removal

Anyone can report a pack. Enough distinct reports hide it automatically, pending review.

Any signed-in user can report a pack they can see. When enough separate accounts report the same pack it is automatically hidden from public and friends lists, and from its direct link, before any human has looked at it — an imperfect filter that acts in minutes beats a perfect one that acts in days. Nothing is deleted by this: the pack's author still sees it, and is told it was hidden. We then review it and either restore it or remove it. We may also remove any pack, or suspend or terminate any account, for breaking these terms or for anything unlawful.

If you believe a pack infringes your copyright or trademark, or that yours was hidden in error, contact us through the About page with enough detail to identify it and we'll review it.

5. Intellectual property

The Thesis app, brand, and original content are ours or our licensors'. Market data belongs to its providers. We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, revocable license to use the app for its intended purpose. Share cards generated by the app are yours to share.

6. Disclaimers and limitation of liability

The app is provided as-is; we're not liable for investment losses. This is standard, and also simply true of a research tool.

THE SERVICE AND ALL CONTENT ARE PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE,” WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING ACCURACY, RELIABILITY, AVAILABILITY, OR FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE. TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, THESIS AND ITS OPERATOR WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL OR EXEMPLARY DAMAGES, OR FOR ANY TRADING OR INVESTMENT LOSSES, LOST PROFITS, OR LOST DATA, ARISING FROM OR RELATED TO YOUR USE OF THE SERVICE — EVEN IF ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY. WHERE LIABILITY CANNOT BE EXCLUDED, IT IS LIMITED TO THE GREATER OF $50 OR THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US IN THE PAST TWELVE MONTHS (CURRENTLY: $0 — THESIS IS FREE).

Some jurisdictions don't allow certain exclusions, so parts of the above may not apply to you.

6a. Indemnity

If someone brings a claim against us because of a pack you published or because you broke these terms, you agree to cover the reasonable costs of defending it. This is standard for anything that lets users publish, and it exists because the alternative is not letting you publish.

7. Termination and changes

You can stop using Thesis or delete your account at any time. We may suspend accounts that violate these terms, and may modify or discontinue the service (it's a beta). We may update these terms; material changes will be posted in the app with a fresh "last updated" date, and continued use means acceptance.

8. Governing law & contact

These terms are governed by the laws of the operator's jurisdiction of residence in the United States, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Questions, bug reports, or data requests: use the contact option on the About page.
